FirstPoint is a new Deaf-led Social Enterprise Community Interest Company (CIC), which is Social Work run, owned and led. We are one of seven Department of Health's Social Work Practice Pilots, and our organisation went live as a registered company in November 2011. We are a not for profit company and have been developed to serve the interests of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing population of Surrey in a more creative and innovative way, and provide value for money services. Any profits will be reinvested into the communities it serves.
We are formerly Surrey Deaf Team Services and part of the Adult Social Care Directorate. We currently provide services to approximately 2,343 adults from across Surrey each year and consider people who use our services, their families and carers as key strategic partners. We are open to working with other partners such as health & social care authorities, businesses, charities & districts/councils.
Throughout the process leading up to the DoH pilot going live, we have encouraged and ensured full and active participation in key decisions from the Surrey Deaf Forum and Surrey Hard of Hearing community in partnership with the Adult Social Care Commissioning Dept. They continue to be an active and vital part of the pilot Steering Group.
